Overview

Fikadu’s journey began at Mekelle University Faculty of Law in Ethiopia, where he earned his LL.B. degree, laying the foundation for a career that would span various facets of the legal landscape.

His professional trajectory unfolds with his role as a Federal Public Prosecutor at the Ministry of Justice from October 2009 to December 2014. In this capacity, he provided invaluable legal advice to the federal government, navigating through criminal and civil suits within the jurisdiction of the Federal Courts.

The subsequent chapter of Fikadu's career saw him transition into private practice as an Attorney & Legal Consultant at Fikadu Abdisa Law Office from December 2014 to till he co-founded Makkobilli. Here, his multifaceted expertise shone brightly from representing clients to undertaking comprehensive factual investigations and legal research. Fikadu became a stalwart defender of his clients' interests both at the state and Federal level.  His proficiency extended across diverse domains, including tax & customs, real estate and mining, business/corporate law and finance, mergers and acquisitions, intellectual property, labor and employment law, contract, criminal law and aviation law.

The culmination of his private practice journey led Fikadu to his current role as a founding member and Senior Attorney & Legal Consultant Partner at Makkobilli Law Firm LLP from October 2023 to date where he continued to deliver impeccable attorney and consultancy services to the firm's clients, cementing his reputation as a legal luminary.

Complementing his professional journey are the numerous certificates and licenses Fikadu has acquired over the years. Noteworthy among them is his Conflict Coaching and Mediation certificate from peacemaker ministry USA, a testament to his commitment to alternative dispute resolution. His fluency in languages such as Amharic, Afaan Oromoo, and English further enriches his ability to connect with a diverse clientele.

Selected Experience

Successfully represented clients in a diverse range of complex and large scale civil, commercial and corporate litigations in multiple forums such as Ethiopian state and federal courts, arbitral tribunals, and administrative tribunals;

Negotiated on behalf of a renowned business engaged in an acquisition by leveraging on tax law acumen from a position of intellectual agility and strength;

Successfully represented a number of corporate clients before federal and state administrative and judicial proceedings in relation to erroneously assessed tax debts;

Drafted, reviewed and negotiated various real estate contracts; provided representation in real estate loan settlements;

Served as a Public Prosecutor at Ethiopian Ministry of Justice and investigated crimes by coordinating and guiding the police crime investigation divisions through appearing at major crime scenes, interrogating suspects and witness, and collecting evidences; and instituted criminal charges at courts and followed throughout the court hearing and appeals.

Handled various mortgage modifications and foreclosure defenses; and

Successfully handled employment related legal matters on behalf of renowned clients, such as Kenera International Trading PLC.
