A Draft Bill to Revise an Ethiopian Proclamation Governing Landholding Expropriation, Compensation and Resettlement Referred to the Legislator
Ethiopian Council of Ministers has, on 20th of December 2023, discussed a draft bill to revise Expropriation of Land holdings for Public Purposes, Payments of Compensation and Resettlement Proclamation No. 1161/2019, and referred it to the lower house of the Ethiopian parliament for further discussions and approval, Ethiopian News Agency reported. According to the report, the bill “aims at strengthening the provision of adequate and appropriate compensation, proportional replacement of land and necessary supports to people who relocate from their land for the benefit of the public.”
Along with this bill, the Council also referred other draft bills for further discussions and approval by the legislator, namely a draft bill on Medal, Nishan and Awards, and a draft bill on Public Holidays and Vacations. Follow this link for the full news report.
